A long-time item on my bucket list has been to see somebody perform this Maurice Ravel piece, commissioned by a concert pianist who lost his right arm in World War I. Thanks to YouTube, I can at least mark the item with an asterisk, but I still intend to experience a live performance in a concert hall.
As for this video, I appreciate the drama of the pianist's cuticles bleeding as she works her way through it. That aside, and as always, it's all about the music, man.
